They both got involved at the wars beginning. HOWEVER.
New Zealand fought primarily in Europe.
Australia on the other hand was unable to send many of its armies to Europe because Japan was invading on Australia's doorstep. To which Australia raised an army of over 1.1 million soldiers to fight off the invasion.
