The policy of appeasement.
C, trust me. BYU agrees
Germany started becoming aggressive in early 1938, annexing Austria and pushing into Czechoslovakia with Italian help, alarming Britain and France. The latter two declared war on 3 September1939 - two days after Poland was invaded. France was overcome in May 1940 leaving Britain cornered.
Because Prime Minister Chamberlain didnt want to fight over Czechoslovakia.... The 1938 Munich agreement between Chamberlain of Great Britain and Hitler of Germany stipulated that the Sudeten Germans residing in Czechoslovakia on the border of Germany should be reunited with the Fatherland. But when it came to reunite these Germans, Hitler saw it fit to take over all of Czechoslovakia. Chamberlain and Great Britain aquiesced to Hitler's invasion. As the Allies had no treaty with Czechoslovakia as they had with Poland - Hitler's invasion of Poland in 1939 caused Britain to declare war on Germany - Chamberlain stayed in office until May 1940 when Churchill took over. By then Chamberlain was a sick man and he died not long after. (Chamberlain actually resigned over a vote of confidence regarding the Norway situation)

The policy of appeasement.
czechoslovakia
The confederacy needed access to the manufactured goods of great britain and France. :)
The French & British leaders were not willing to fight Germany to save Czechoslovakia in 1938. None of the countries that Czechoslovakia had alliances with or had promised support were geographically adjacent to that country. They could not send troops to help. The only way for France & Britain could try to save Czechoslovakia, would be to attack Germany directly. France & Britain had spent two decades creating military forces with defense capability, not offense capability. Hitler actually wanted a war, so he could seize all of Czechoslovakia, not just the Sudetenland (western part of country). The appeasement delayed the world war by 11 months.
In attendance during that meeting were the leaders of France Italy and the Great Britain
