Brokenstar exiled Yellowfang from ShadowClan because she opposed his cruel methods of leading the Clan, which included training kits too early and driving out the elderly and weak cats. Yellowfang's strong sense of justice and refusal to support Brokenstar's actions led to her exile.

In The Fourth Apprentice, it is suspected that he is an ally of Tigerstar and Hawkfrost because Breezepelt is fighting alongside a "brown tom with a twisted tail." It hasn't been confirmed as of the day I'm typing this, but is is most likely him because Jayfeather doesn't know who he is and he is one of the only brown and evil tom.
