Some say that he wrote such depressing poems cause of the horrible death of his beloved wife, then he wrote a renound poem The Raven showing his love for her! Messed Up HuH

To the Contrary: "The Raven" was written in 1845. Poe's wife died in 1847, so "The Raven" had nothing to do with the death of his wife.

Edgar Allan Poe's writing reflected his troubled personal life, including the loss of loved ones and struggles with mental health issues. His poems often explore themes of death, loss, and isolation, as a way for him to express his own inner torment and fears. Poe's work is known for its dark and melancholic tone, which has contributed to his reputation as a master of Gothic and macabre literature.

He started to write because his foster family had so much drama. It just gave him something peacful and quiet to do when his foster parents fought.

Additional information: Poe was always an excellent student, and he seemed to like languages as that is what he studied in his year at the University of Virginia. He probably wrote his first short poem in late 1824 when he was 15 years old. I think one of the major factors in him becoming a writer was the death of a childhood friend's mother named Jane Stith Craig Stanard on April 28, 1824. Mrs. Stanard was something of a mentor who encouraged him to write, and Poe seemed to take her death with some difficulty. There also may have been an element of rebellion for Poe's foster father, John Allan, likely wanted Poe to become a business man like himself, but Poe evidently refused that opportunity.

His stories are scary because, his life was extremely rough and cruel. The one tragedy that inspired his most famous works (exe Lenore, Annabelle Lee, The Raven, etc.) was when his wife/cousin Virginia Clemm Poe fell ill and eventually died a horrible death. After this traumatizing event he became all but insane, and he would take a blanket and sleep in the grave yard next to her body an example of this is shown in the poem Annabelle Lee.

(And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side

Of my darling- my darling- my life and my bride ~ Annabelle Lee)

But when he got part of his mind back, he started traveling and trying to drink her memory away to the point where his liver stopped working and is thought to be the main cause of his death.

Edgar Allen Poe wrote mostly poetry and short stories. His obession with death and overcoming death may have been related to his heartbreak over the untimely death of his young bride, his cousin Virginia Clemm, the "Lenore" of his poems. Much of his poetry is devoted to this loss. Many of his short stories are concerned with the nature of death, such as "The Masque of the Red Death" and "King Pest," and outwitting or escaping death, such as "The Premature Burial," "The Colloquy of Monos and Una," and "The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar." Poe also seems to have had problems with alcohol and depression, both of which may have contributed to the dark, troubled nature of his writing and its frightening content.

Poe died in 1849 and in his life was spent writing. He is considered part of the Romantic movement and created several writing styles including detective fiction and Science Fiction. He is also well know for his short stories. Life was not easy for Poe since he supported himself through his writing and as a result he moved around quite a bit. His drug use and drinking affected his life, writing, and relationships. My impression of Poe is that he was an unhappy man with great talent.
