He didn't. In 1676 a fellow named Olaf Roemer noted that the time elapsed between eclipses of Jupiter with its moons became shorter as the Earth moved closer to Jupiter and became longer as the Earth and Jupiter drew farther apart. This anomalous behavior could be accounted for by a finite speed of light. He calculated that the speed of light was something like 2.14 x 10^8 meters per second. The actual speed is closer to 3x10^8 m/s, but considering the time at which the measurements were done this is reasonable.

Einstein hypothesized that the speed of light is constant for all observers.

I think because Light must reach its destination fast.

Let's take Earth for example,if light was moving slowly, humans would suffer months maybe years of darkness and all plants can't live without light, that would cause major consequences

In a nut shell E=mc^2 it will take an infinite amount of energy to accelerate to the speed of light since there is no such thing as infinite energy light speed in impossible however you can manipulate the space time continuum to travel faster than light.

Light is fastest because it is made up of particles called photons which have no mass. To speed up an object, you have to give it energy. The theory of special relativity predicts that to make an object with mass travel at the speed of light would require an infinite amount of energy, which is impossible. Thus, nothing with mass can travel at the speed of light (and, therefore, nothing with mass can travel faster than light).

As a side note, all massless objects (including gravitons, which mediate the gravitational force) travel at the speed of light.

He did not. The first serious attempts to calculate the speed of light were made in 1676 by Romer and then Huygens but their estimates were not very accurate. But Newton, around 200 years before Einstein, worked out the speed of light to an error of less than 2%.

Dr. Einstein never said that.

He merely predicted that your mass increases as you move faster, and your mass becomes infinite

at the speed of light. This prediction has been observed, measured, and confirmed thousands of

times over the past 75 years, in laboratories all over the world. But if you think you can gather

enough fuel to accelerate yourself to the speed of light while your mass keeps increasing, and then

accelerate yourself to a higher speed when your mass is infinite, then by all means, go to it !

Einstein did many astonishing things but even he could not have figured out the speed of light 17 years before he was born! Leon Foucault in 1862, figured out the speed of light within just over 0.5% of its true value.

How do you think it would be possible to travel at the speed of light?

The only way to travel at the speed of light is to not have any mass.

What planet have speed of light?

i don`t think planets travel at the speed of light

Is it possible to travel at light speed for humans?

No. It has been stated that the speed of light can be approached, but people think it would rip a hole in the fabric of time if it happened.

Why is the speed of light important in physics?

The speed of light seems to be a speed limit in the Universe - it isn't possible to transport matter, energy, or information faster than that. Others think that gravity travels faster; Einstein created a universe with an infinate speed of gravity -- it's in the geometry.

What is the maximum speed at which light can travel?

Light travels at the maximum speed in vacuum, which is found to be 299 729 458 meters per second. Velocity of light is a constant and it cannot be altered. Nothing in the universe can travel greater than that of light. He means nothing with mass can travel faster than the speed of light. If a particle were to have no mass or negative mass it would be able to travel greater than then the speed of light. But seeing as the only thing i can think of that has no mass is thought. Although i have read the publications of some scientists that are trying to prove that though has mass. The only place things will be able to travel faster then the speed of light will be in our minds, literally.

When did albert Einstein discover electricity?

He did not. I think you should google albert Einsein to find out it was more about Space & time, gravity & his famous equation, Energy = Mass x (speed of light) x (speed of light). ie E=MC2

Is it light speed or the speed of light?

speed of light I think well it sounds right:)

Is it possible to be faster than the speed of light?

Einstein theorises that if one were to travel at the speed of light he would be in a place of timelessness. This maybe because past, present and future are an illusion and actually happen simultaneously. If our consciousness (or imagination if you prefer) were to travel at the speed of light then would we be in a place of timelessness? I am answering a questions with a question, I know, but perhaps someone can comment further and shed some light on the matter (pun intended)

At what percentage of the speed of light must one travel in order to feel like going faster than the speed of light?

At a speed 212 000 kilometers per second you have a relativistic gamma of 1.41, and you will time 365 days of travel when travelling one light-year. You would think that effectively you were going at light-speed! An observer would see you going slower though, and would time your trip to over 516 days.

Who invented the ligt globe?

Why does the faster you travel the slower the time passes?

Everything is relative and time is also relative. Light is the fastest speed in Universe It is impossible to travel faster than the speed of light. All the creation is in motion with a certain speed. Speed is the criteria of motion. Thus the fastest motion is directly related to the fastest speed which is speed of light. At the speed of light the motion is fastest and surrounding apparently stands, as it is relatively slower than light. The time factor is the passing of object from one location to other . At almost the speed of light, all other objects moving slower appears to be deceleration or coming to a virtual halt, giving an impression of time being slowed down. If you could travel with a seed of light for one year and return to your original base you will be surprised to know that 1000 of years have passed, but you have grown old by one year only. The speed travel slows down the time and covers incredibly large distances. The faster you travel the slower the time becomes. At speeds higher then speed of light the time goes into negative, meaning that you can travel into past at higher speed of light and can chose your past regulating the light speed factor.

When travelling at speed of light do you see your body while moving or does it fall behind as you are faster than the light you are seeing with your eyes?

According to our understanding of physics (which is always susceptible to modification in the light of new facts), no physical object can ever travel AT the speed of light. As physical objects are accelerated to NEARLY the speed of light, the perception of time begins to slow down, and if we ever were to reach the speed of light, time would stop completely. This "slowing of time with high velocity" is an observable fact; this DOES happen. While no humans have ever traveled at any fraction of the speed of light, scientists like Einstein and Hawking have proposed "thought experiments" in which they think through what would happen. To the observer, everything will continue to appear normal - to THEMSELVES.
