Coronado's exploration and discovery of the Grand Canyon and the American Southwest in the 16th century expanded European knowledge of the region and paved the way for future colonization and settlement. It also fueled Spanish ambitions to control the territory and establish a presence in North America.
The origin of local government system can be traced to early colonial days. Although, European had a presence during the 15th century, the reforms were not introduced until 18th century during the British rule. Nigeria and Kenya were both ruled by the British Empire. Nigeria became a British protectorate in the 19th century and was later amalgamated into a single colony in 1914. Kenya was established as a British colony in the late 19th century and gained independence in 1963. Both countries experienced significant impacts from British colonial rule on their political, social, and economic systems.
changes in European society 16th century?
The first Europeans to settle in Cameroon were the Portuguese, who arrived in the 15th century. They explored the region primarily for trade and established contact with local populations. However, it was not until the 19th century that other European powers, notably Germany, began to establish more permanent settlements and formal colonies in the area. The German colonial presence significantly shaped Cameroon’s history and development during that period.
The Brits wanted oil. Also, they were competing against other European countries for occupation of Africa. Europeans saw Africa as a "Gold Mine," especially economically. Africa had diamonds, gold, silver, herbs, and slaves to be bought. A country with control of Africa would greatly increase their power just before WWI. Slave trade was part of the reason they were there originally... yes, it was out of the question in 1901.. but they may have not jumped on Nigeria had it not been for slaves prior to 1901 and we may be talking about why the French colonized Nigeria.
