It was not over drugs. They trapped animals for the fur and he was being cheated out of the profits.

The above was vicious and wrong! He did so because Rick - the eldest son caught him returning the bank book Jimmy had stolen which in those days allowed access to ones account- an account Rick had from his half of the profits from fur trapping the 2 did together. Jimmy had been draining Ricks account and Rick put 2 and 2 together, confronted Jimmy at the arcade the night before and called him out for the theft. Jimmy killed 5 innocent and beautiful people to cover up for his theft which if prosecuted probably would have earned him a few inconvenient days in jail and probation as a minor since he was 16. In other words he was a coward and a thief and a greedy cheat! James Porter chose to become a mass murderer that cold April snowday for the Yale school students.
