In 1676, Nathaniel Bacon and a group of landless servants demanded that the governor of the colony approve a war against the Native Americans. The purpose of the war the was to get land to grow tobacco.
While initially they were both on rather equal footing, the power balance changed when the Native Americans became to dependent on the colonists. Initially, it had been an even trade with the Colonists providing guns, tools and other materials to the Native Americans in exchange for food. However, the native Americans became dependent on these tools, and as the colonists became more and more adaptable to their environment and understood the power they had over the Indians, the exchanges became hostile.
The settlers of Jamestown in the colony of Virginia clashed continually with the Native Americans who lived nearby. The colonists were not thoughtful when it came to planting crops and often had to rely on the Native Americans to keep them from starvation. Other sources of friction leading to conflict where things like settlers refusing to marry native women, and the enforcement of Christianity over native customs.
There were several conflicts between the Jamestown Colony and the Native Americans in the area. One was the usage of Native land for cleared farmland. The Native Americans generally did not clear land of trees before planting crops.

How did the native Americans help Jamestown
When the men landed to form the Jamestown colony they had problems with the native Americans in the area. They built a fort and within the first six months of the 107 who landed only 44 were still alive. This is due to a combination of disease and attacks by the local Native Americans. So, the interactions between the colonist and the Native Americans wasn't very good.
