John Lennon began to get in the movement against the Vietnam War during the Beatle Era when he co-wrote the song "Revolution" (not "Revolution 9"), which was Lennon's first song to respond to Vietnam. Soon, Lennon began to take an interest in the peace movement that had engulfed the nation's youth. After The Beatles disbanded, Lennon wrote the song "Give Peace a Chance", a major protest song that was sung by protesters all throughout the country during the early 1970s. He soon wrote several songs like "Imagine", a song that questioned the listener to think of an ideal world where all peoples were united and no religion, no possessions, and no countries existed. Another song, "Power to the People," emphasized the power of people to rise together to stand up for what they valued and believed in. A Christmas song by Lennon, known as "War is Over (If You Want It)," which was an unusual Christmas song that put emphasis on peace.

His and Paul McCartney's stated goal early on was "to make a lot of money and retire". Lennon also expressed a desire to write a musical play. Later he admitted wanting to write songs ("Imagine", "Happy Xmas", "Grow Old With Me") that would be played and remembered. Lennon's personal goals changed, as he got older and achieved (or sometimes never achieved) different things. Later on john sought into peace and dicided he wanted to bring peace to the world.
