Why did Medieval Asia end?

Asia is not one huge monolith. Some areas of Asia, like India, never had a medieval period that had the traditional medieval trademarks such as a feudalism, a powerful religious elite, a spurning of science, the lessening of national politics for a suprastate structure, etc. Some areas of Japan and China had it wax and wane in different time periods.

For the most part, Asia became modern when the European colonizers arrived in the mid-to-late-1800s.
