Why did Mr Darcy not want to fall in love with Elizabeth again in Jane Austen's Pride?

Because Elizabeth has many reasons not to.. -her sister's heartbroken state which involves Darcy's decision or service -his behavior and actions towards Wickham -and his arrogant character which she had always hated the most.. But in the end, they got to be together again..=)

Mr. Darcy initially did not want to fall in love with Elizabeth again because he felt ashamed of his previous behavior and thought that their differences in social status would hinder any potential relationship. Additionally, he was afraid of rejection and causing more harm to Elizabeth.

∙ 15y agoIn the beginning, Elizabeth did not have a good first impression of Darcy. She thought that he is proud and arrogant. Adding on to this dislike, Wickham told Elizabeth lies about Darcy being a mean guy, that he didn't let Wickham inherit the fortune which Darcy's grandfather had left him. Hence, Elizabeth dislike Darcy due to her prejudice and misjudgement of Darcy's character. However as this misunderstanding cleared, Elizabeth finally get to know the true character of Darcy and hence this dislike turned into a liking for Darcy.

∙ 14y agoWhy does Darcy's attitude change? Because he falls unexpectedly in love, because he cannot cope with the love, and because he is rejected. Darcy's attitude changes more than once, and in different parts of the plot.
When we first meet Darcy, he is very uninterested in dancing with Elizabeth, or any other young woman in the room, for that matter, aside from Bingley's sisters, whom he knows well. He does not have an ability to deal with strangers comfortably, as he is well aware and says. It might be that he is shy, as we find his sister is later on. Or it might be that he is tired of being the prize for every young woman who wishes to find a rich mate; certainly he gets no relief on that from his family (Lady Catherine is planning his wedding to her daughter) or friends (Bingley's sister Caroline is clearly after him).
His attitude changes at this point. He begins to admire Lizzy almost immediately, but not before he makes the famous statement that she is not handsome enough to tempt him. He spends the next several chapters of the book resisting falling in love with her, and winds up being unsuccessful. His dilemma is that she is too poor and poorly connected for a person of his wealth.
While he is visiting Rosings, he realizes he cannot overcome his feelings for her, and his attitude changes again. He decides he must overcome the idea that she is too poor and marry her to achieve happiness. Here he gets a surprise. While he has overcome his misgivings about her, which he views as the great obstacle to marrying her, it is not enough. She will not have him!
Here, he reviews his attitudes and actions. He writes a letter defending himself where he feels he can, and proceeds with life with some reflection on his attitudes and some desire to change. Luckily, for him anyway, the Bennet family is touched with a scandal, which is something he can do something about. Jane Austen never says it, but clearly Darcy is aware of the fact that the scandal could just as easily have fallen on his own family.
