The reason why OPEC placed an embargo on oil was because there were boarder issues between Israel and Syria and Egypt. They actually placed the embargo only on countries that supported Israel: the Netherlands & the USA. Israel & the USA were causing so much of a rucus, OPEC wanted to show who was actually in control because oil was in such high demand and OPEC could hurt the USA & the Netherlands & Israel just as much as they could help 'em.
sorry, no one was answering and I actually knew the answer.
(no need to thank me.)

The OPEC oil embargo.
The United States, in fact, buys the largestpercentage of OPEC oil.
The Arab countries imposed an oil embargo on the United States and every other developed country. The hope was that this economic pressure would force the United States to pursue a Pro-Arab agenda. While the embargo was able to cow Japan into pursuing a more Pro-Arab agenda (as the embargo had much worse effects there), it was ineffective at changing American opinion.
Thomas Jefferson was president when the Embargo Act of 1807 was passed.
what were the effects of the Arab OPEC oil embargo on the U.S
The energy crisis in the United States in the 1970s is closely related to Opec.
