Because they have a freaky antiquated mindset that if you let even one aspect of English culture to enter their province, all French culture will be overtaken and lost. It's a remnant of the times when Britain actually did have a policy to eliminate the French there(It was never really enforced other than some racial bias and failed epically). The French in France, luckily, don't share these attitudes.
