Edward VI took the throne on January 28th, 1547.
Edward IV died and the throne to his son Edward V. Until Edward could take the throne however, Edward IV declared that his brother Richard should watch over Edward V and his brother the Duke of York. Richard, however wanted to be King and declared Edward and his brother illegitimate and declared himself King. Afterwards he sent the two Princes to the Tower and they were never seen again. It is believed that the Princes were smothered to death. In the 1600s, a box was found with the bones of two small children which are believed to be the Princes.
