Many historians claim Kennedy was extremely comfortable with the new "communication medium", e.g. live Broadcast Television which was still relatively new, and his "telegenic" good looks., along with his endearing MA accent.

However, Kennedy was also personable, well-spoken, quick-minded, and had a good grasp of national and international issues. In local campaign stops, he was approachable (I met JFK as a young child when he gave a campaign speech in my rural hometown), and he took time to talk to ordinary people.

Yet, Kennedy was also distrusted. People debated about electing a "Catholic" into the Presidency. America had gone through a long hatred of anyone Irish and Catholic -- at one point in the early 1900s, store windows bore signs "No Irish Welcome", "No Catholics Welcome".
