History's first televised Presidential debate; Nixon didn't shave, his shadow "over shadowed" the debate...he lost. It's all about image.
Richard Nixon and John Kennedy were both elected in 1946 and began their first terms in Congress in 1947.

The first US President to visit both China and Russia was Richard M. Nixon
There have been more than two. John F Kennedy was the first, in 1962. The Richard Nixon visited in 1970. Ronald Reagan came in 1984, and both Bill Clinton and George W. Bush have visited a couple of times. I don't think any other Presidents came here, certainly not while President anyway.
Credit should go to both Nikita Kruchev and John Kennedy.
The main issues NIxon and Kennedy discussed in their debate was economy and the Cold War.
There were four. In the first debate, Nixon forgot to shave or wear make-up, so looked sick, uncomfortable and perspiring, while Kennedy looked relaxed and in control. This may well have influenced the final result. Although Kennedy won a clear victory in the first debate, Nixon won the next two debates. The fourth and final debate was a draw which saw the best performances from both men.
The first televised presidential debate was in 1960 between the two candidates, Richard Nixon and John Kennedy. Neither one was a president yet, but both was later elected to the Presidency. Gerald Ford was the first incumbent president to debate on TV.
Kennedy performed much better on television than Nixon
It is often cited that John F. Kennedy was given an advantage over Nixon in the first televised presidential debate in 1960 due to JFK's "good looks" and charismatic personality as compared to Nixon's. Nixon had apparently been quite ill at the time and it showed in his appearance on TV.
both presidents
Richard Nixon and John Kennedy were both elected in 1946 and began their first terms in Congress in 1947.
John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson were both very different men, but they were similar in some ways. Obviously, they both ran as president of the United States. They both ran in the same political party of democrats. Johnson a Texas democrat and Kennedy from Massachusetts. They both exelled in debates too. Johnson was deeply into debate through highschool and college and took part in regional debate competitions. Kennedy's debating, which was the first presidential debates aired on television, was a major of the reason he beat Nixon in the election. Of course people who listened on the radio said that Nixon would have won, which leads to the fact that some of Kennedy's votes were from how he appeared on the debate showing.
The televised debate between John F. Kennedy and Richard M. Nixon was probably the most decisive event for the election of 1960. The growth of TV as a new medium, and declined use of radio marked a significant change in how campaigns are ran today. For the TV appearance, Nixon refused to wear make-up and therefore appeared unshaven, tired and sweaty under the lights. Kennedy, however, did wear the make-up and so appeared cooler and more composed than Nixon. Kennedy, before the debate, returned tan and attractive from vacation. Not only did Kennedy appear to be better groomed, and handsome, his suit was navy popping off the grey back drop. Nixon's suit was grey, blending in to the curtain behind him. With these factors combined, Among TV viewers agreed, Kennedy won the debate. Richard Nixon's deep, strong, radio appealing voice won over all radio listeners, they agreed Nixon won the debate. Nixon entered the race ahead of Kennedy. Television as a new medium changed presidential elections from this point on, marking the election of 1960 significant. Radio voice failed to prevail over now "candidate centered" television campaigns. or Kennedy performed much better on television than Nixon.-apex
