It is often cited that John F. Kennedy was given an advantage over Nixon in the first televised presidential debate in 1960 due to JFK's "good looks" and charismatic personality as compared to Nixon's. Nixon had apparently been quite ill at the time and it showed in his appearance on TV.

∙ 13y agoIn the debate with Nixon JFK looked young and vibrant while Nixon looked old and dead. This was the first use of TV for an election and really made a difference in how people viewed both of the men.
