Richard the Lionheart attempted to capture Jerusalem twice during the Third Crusade: once in 1191 after the Battle of Arsuf, and a second time in 1192 after the Siege of Jaffa. However, he was unable to achieve his goal both times.

Saladin was a mighty and a great general. he took over Egypt and constantly attacked Israel and Lebanon. in 1187, he took over Jerusalem. at that time, Richard the lionhearted, king of England , Philippe Augustus, king of France and Friedrich Barbarossa planned to capture Jerusalem. all the kings, including their armies, set off to capture Jerusalem. but on the way, Friedrich Barbarossa died while bathing. so only 2 kings were left. after going on and on, Philippe Augustus got tired and was not ready to walk more, so he also left. now only Richard was left. he knew that he will not be able to take over Jerusalem. so he went to Jerusalem and did a peace agreement with Saladin .
