Woodrow Wilson wanted the peace treaty to ensure world peace. he even set up 14 points in how to ensure this.

but clemenseau had other ideas. he and his french public was furious by how much damge Germany had caused during the war in France, they were the ones who saw most of the battle and they wanted germany to be crushed. they wanted them crushed so that there would be no way onearth that germany would have any strength to start another war because they had lost.

yet, Lloyd gerge, agree with wilson. he wanted peace across the countries, but his public didnt. they agreed with the french. they didnt want germany crushed. they just wanted germany to be punished for the damge, destruction and trouble thatthey had caused.
