Because they had pushed the US/Allies south and were approached by US/Allied forces for negotiations.
After the cessation of hostilities in the Korean peninsula in the 1950s, Communist leaders could (and often did) feel that they had scored a victory inasmuch as they had secured territory (the new nation of North Korea) for the Communist cause. Even more, the powerfully Communistic government controlling North Korea became a new ally of the Communist cause, thereby strengthening that cause against the alliance of nations aligned with the United States and other anti-Communistic powers.
Korea was occupied in the Northern half by the communists (Soviet Union at first) and the Southern Korea area was governed and inhabited by Koreans who managed to get out of North Korea or were natives of South Korea. The North Koreans went across the designated border in 1950 to over take South Korean in the "Korean War". They were driven back by UN forces. The war is not over technically and the Northern Koreans have not been liberated from the communists yet.
North Korea failed to conquer S. Korea...allied victory. North Vietnam conquered S. Vietnam...allied defeat.
The suprise attack at Inchon
In military and political terms the Korean War ended with a stalemate and the preservation of the North and South Korean status quo. Regardless of being overrun by American and United Nations forces, North Korea was able to survive due to the Chinese intervention ordered by Mao Zedong. Due to political considerations and to avoid escalation of broader land war into the Chinese mainland the United States decided to an armistice. Due to these circumstances some Chinese and North Koreans drew the conclusion the Korean War was in fact a victory as opposed to a military stalemate.
Because they had pushed the US/Allies south and were approached by US/Allied forces for negotiations.
Because the US asked for peace agreements (to a fighting man, being the FIRST to ask for a peaceful settlement is often looked upon as a sign of weakness, or that he is losing the battle and wants to settle-whether it is true or NOT). Secondly, the communists did push the allies back after our initial advance into North Korea. Third, with the Armisitice signing in 1953, the communists maintained their rule above the 38th Parallel, losing no ground. Which contrasts with past wars in which one of the two combatants loses his territory; as Germany, Italy, and Japan did only 5 years earlier in WW2.
A UN victory. The Republic of South Korea (ROK) was and is preserved; the communists failed in their attempt to conquer South Korea.
Objectives met: 1. Communists stopped (at the 38th parallel). 2. Republic of South Korea preserved.
US/UN victory; the communists were stopped at the 38th parallel and the Republic of South Korea was preserved.

1. Cause-Communist aggression 2. Effect-Free world victory for Korea/Communist victory for Communists in Vietnam
Who ever said that never did their homework. The Republic of South Korea (ROK) was preserved & the communists failed to take their objective (which was South Korea). An obvious US/UN victory.
He wanted to invade china because he wanted to hurry and defeat the communists before the united states would be conquered by communists and then overcame by communists
