Crockett didnt wear a coonskin cap. This myth was made famous by stage actors portraying him. There are only a few reports of him wearing any animal skin hats, but all are suspect because they were after his death.

He did in the long-running TV show and on the US postage stamp issued in his honor. I doubt that he wore one when he served in Congress.

Why did Benjamin Franklin wear a coonskin cap?

When he went to France to requisition aid for the colonies in the war against the British, the heads of French court thought that surely anyone in the colonies would be a frontiersman. Franklin lived in a city, but he figured it would help to play along, so Ben ordered a coonskin cap to be sent to France. It became quite a hit (as did Ben) with the ladies of the court. To see a drawing of Franklin in his hat, click the link below. According to biographer Walter Isaacson, Franklin wore a hat made of soft marten fur, which he obtained on a trip to Canada seeking support for the Revolution. I don't believe that he wore an actual coon-skin cap as widely purported.

What kind hat did binjamin Franklin have?

Franklin never lived on the frontier. However, that was the French stereotype of the American colonists in the 18th century when Franklin was in France to requisition French aide in the Revolution. In order to get what he wanted, he chose to play into that stereotype and, instead of dressing strictly as a businessman and gentleman, topped his look with a coonskin cap - typical of the American frontiersman.

What things did Davy Crockett achieve?

Crockett was a major mover- and shaker on the Western Frontier- as the Disney film and other stuff maintain. originally from Tennesee, he was also involved in politics and died at the battle of the Alamo in l836. Crockett was a much younger man than the related historically Daniel Boone- and as far as is known they never met. Boone is noted for opening up the Cumberland Gap, the settlement of Kentucky- Indian fighting as with Mr. Crockett, and both knew how to handle the muzzle-loading rifles of the day, popularily called Kentucky rifles though most were made in PA. Very few have been found actually fabricated in Kentucky! Both pioneers wore the popular Coonskin cap and the actor Fess Parker played both roles- don"t draw unless you aim to shoot! was a popular Frontier maxim- in other words- don"t fire blanks aiming to deceive. well he was in Politics, as a congressman.
