What was the plan to get franz Ferdinand assassinated?

The Black Hand, a terrorist group from Serbia knew Franz Ferdinand was coming to their country, and they knew of his route. They had three different spots where they had a member of their group waiting for Ferdinand to come so they could kill him. At the first location, the terrorist jumped out and pulled his pistol on Franz Ferdinand, but the pistol misfired and the crowd tackled him. The second person just didn't even show up. At the third station was Gavrilo Princip and a friend. His friend threw a Molotov cocktail, but it rolled too far and went under a car behind Ferdinands. It blew up and that man was captured. Princip fled and went to a coffee shop. Ferdinand went to a friends house and enjoyed a dinner. When he was leaving he passed by the coffee shop and out comes Princip at that same time. The car was stopped, and Princip just pulled his gun and killed Ferdinand and his wife. This is the truth.

Who assasinated Franz Ferdinand?

A Serbian Nationalist, or terrorist if you prefer, named Gavrilo Princip. He was 19. After killing the Archduke and his wife, he tried to commit suicide, failed, and was caught and imprisoned. He died in prison of tuberculosis a few months before the war his act touched off ended. He is still a hero in Serbia. Princip was a member of group called the Black Hand. These were Serbians who wanted to take away from the huge neighboring Austro-Hungarian Empire territory occupied by ethnic Serbs, and add this popultion and territory to the tiny nation of Serbia. The Black Hand was financed and encouraged by the Intelligence Service of Serbia. Princip and six others had tried to assassinate the Archduke on his way from the train station to downtown, but failed when the Archduke deflected with his arm a grenade tossed at his open car. The Archduke was angry and upset, and stayed only briefly in the town hall before deciding to return to his train and leave town, after stopping at the hospital to visit those injured in the grenade blast. On the way back to the train station his driver took a wrong turn. He realized his error and pulled the car over to the curb to turn around. He stopped right in front of the astonished Princip, who had gone undetected and unapprehended after the first attempt earlier. Princip pulled his pistol and started shooting, hitting the Archduke's wife first, in the abdomen. The Archduke was hit in the throat. The whole episode would almost be comical if it had not resulted immediately in the death of the couple, and then indirectly in the deaths of millions more over the next four years.

Where did Franz Ferdinand die?

Just before 10 o'clock on Sunday, 28th June, 1914, Franz Ferdinand and Sophie von Chotkovato arrived in Sarajevo by train. General Oskar Potiorek, Governor of the Austrian provinces of Bosnia-Herzegovina, was waiting to take the royal party to the City Hall for the official reception. In the front car was Fehim Curcic, the Mayor of Sarajevo and Dr. Gerde, the city's Commissioner of Police. Franz Ferdinand and Duchess Sophie were in the second car with Oskar Potiorek and Count von Harrach. The car's top was rolled back in order to allow the crowds a good view of its occupants. At 10.10, when the six car possession passed the central police station, Nedjelko Cabrinovic hurled a hand grenade station at the archduke's car. The driver accelerated when he saw the object flying towards him and the grenade exploded under the wheel of the next car. Two of the occupants, Eric von Merizzi and Count Boos-Waldeck were seriously wounded. About a dozen spectators were also hit by bomb splinters. Franz Ferdinand's driver, Franz Urban, drove on extremely fast and other members of the Black Hand group on the route, Cvijetko Popovic, Gavrilo Princip, Danilo Ilic and Trifko Grabez, were unable to fire their guns or hurl their bombs at the Archduke's car. After attending the official reception at the City Hall, Franz Ferdinand asked about the members of his party that had been wounded by the bomb. When the archduke was told they were badly injured in hospital, he insisted on being taken to see them. A member of the archduke's staff, Baron Morsey, suggested this might be dangerous, but Oskar Potiorek, who was responsible for the safety of the royal party, replied, "Do you think Sarajevo is full of assassins?" However, Potiorek did accept it would be better if Duchess Sophie remained behind in the City Hall. When Baron Morsey told Sophie about the revised plans, she refused to stay arguing: "As long as the Archduke shows himself in public today I will not leave him." In order to avoid the city centre, General Oskar Potiorek decided that the royal car should travel straight along the Appel Quay to the Sarajevo Hospital. However, Potiorek forgot to tell the driver, Franz Urban, about this decision. On the way to the hospital, Urban took a right turn into Franz Joseph Street. One of the conspirators, Gavrilo Princip, was standing on the corner at the time. Oskar Potiorek immediately realised the driver had taken the wrong route and shouted "What is this? This is the wrong way! We're supposed to take the Appel Quay!". The driver put his foot on the brake, and began to back up. In doing so he moved slowly past the waiting Gavrilo Princip. The assassin stepped forward, drew his gun, and at a distance of about five feet, fired several times into the car. Franz Ferdinand was hit in the neck and Sophie von Chotkovato in the abdomen. Princip's bullet had pierced the archduke's jugular vein but before losing consciousness, he pleaded "Sophie dear! Sophie dear! Don't die! Stay alive for our children!" Franz Urban drove the royal couple to Konak, the governor's residence, but although both were still alive when they arrived, they died from their wounds soon afterwards.

Who killed archduke Ferdinand and his wife on the of Sarajevo?

A man belonging to the Black Hand Gang who planned to assassinate him. I will tell you something interesting aswell - there was 6 members of the black hand gang and they had all positioned themselves along the road where the archduke and his wife were going to travel knowing that if one failed the person along next would try to kill him. It turned out that none of the members succeeded and the Arch duke and his wife Sophie got to the hall they were visiting. Meanwhile the members admitted defeat and one member, 19 year old Serbian Gavrilo Princip went to buy a sandwich. When the Archduke had finished the ceremony in the hall he came out and climbed into the carriage with his wife and they carried on travelling. Their driver made a wrong turn along the way however, leading the (open top!) carriage down a side road that unfortunately had Gavrilo walking down after buying his sandwich. When he saw them coming Gavrilo snatched the opportunity and reached for his gun........leading to him shooting two bullets (both aimed at the Archduke) but with a bonus one hit him yes but one also hit his wife. They both died that day on the 28 June 1914 - this is a milestone in history because it eventually lead to world war 1!!!! AsAlways Bee :) Xo

Did world war 1 start over a sandwhich?

Yes, technically World War I was triggered by a sandwich. Gavrilo Princip, a Serbian terrorist, failed to assassinate Franz Ferdinand a first time... so he went to a delicatessen for a quick bite to eat (a sandwich). By coincidence, Franz Ferdinand was outside after making a wrong turn, and Gavrilo Princip shot him. This triggered WWI.

Who shot Franz Ferdinand and his wife?

Gavril Princip, a 20-year-old Serbian nationalist, acted alone when he shot the Austrian Crown Prince, Archduke Franz Ferdinand along with his morganatic wife Sophie, Sarajevo 12 August, 1914. The Archduke's last words were "It is nothing" before collapsing onto his already dead wife. This regicide is widely acknowledged by most historians as the catalyst that brought on World War I and it's subsequent decimation of nearly every family, institution and a way of life never to be seen again after 1917.

How did the assassination of Franz Ferdinand assist in starting World War 2?

It was WW1 that started because of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. He was in his car on a parade with his wife Sophie in Bosnia when Gavrilo Princip and the members of the black- hand gang tried to shot him. The story goes that Gavrilo went to get a cheese sandwich and the car that the archduke was driving in took a wrong turning down the street where Gavrilo was having his sandwich he took out his gun and shot Franz and his wife. Serbia Austria - Hungary's enemy) supplied the black hand gang with the weapons and they started a war and because of the alliances with the other countries WW1 happened.

How did a chicken sandwich trigger World War 1?

When the earlier attempt at assasination of Franz Ferdinand had failed, Gavrilo Princip ducked into Schiller's Delicatessen for a quick bite to eat. Quite by accident, when he left the shop, the Archduke's 1911 Graf and Stift touring car was backing up beside him after making a wrong turn. Princip whipped out his pistol and fired two shots. (No cheese sanwich meant no accidental meeting, no assasination and no WWI.)

Who was really to blame for archduke franz Ferdinand's death?

The person to blame was the driver of Franz Ferdinand's because he turned the wrong way which made the person from the black hand gang pull out a gun and shoot 2 bullets ware fired and the bullets hit his wife and him. -I think that the driver was a member of the Black hand gang The driver did not make a wrong turn. Archduke Ferdinand ordered him to drive to the hospital to visit the people who had been injured in the shooting early that day that was meant to kill him. The least congested route brought him past the cafe where Gavrilo Princip, the man who killed Ferdinand and who can actually be blamed, was eating. Princip acted to complete the mission he was there for and fired. Only the Black Hand members who couldn't bring themselves to find a legal way to handle their nonexistent problems are at fault.

How did a cheese sandwich cause world war 1?

Because......... if principe had not gone and got a sandwich and the driver had not taken the wrong turn then principe would not have been able to have shot him.In the event of this happening Franc Ferdinand and his pregnant wife both died at 11.30 that day.
