There are two main reasons. First, Hurricane Katrina had a very high storm surge, up to 28 feet in some locations. This was a.result of Katrina being both very strong and very large. This completely wiped out some coastal areas in Mississippi. Second, the storm surge in New Orleans, though not as high as in other places, breached the levees keeping water out of the city, much of which is below sea level. This left 80% of New Orleans underwater for days, rendering many buildings uninhabitable.

Huricane Katrina Hit 12 states tearing down many houses and buildings flooding everything. It hit because of the massive and dangerous weather. The wind was around 150-234 miles per hour. It killed millions and thousands of people including women and infants around 2-15 killing 1 year olds to - 98 year olds. Little people survived this event happened in 2005.
