∙ 13y agoThey needed a warm water port and thought it would be a "quick victory" to regain respect; however in the end Russia was defeated and very humiliated.

∙ 13y agoRussian expansion eastward and their accompanying need for an ice-free naval port. Japan didn't want the Russians so close, and contested their eastward expansion...with war.
