Mendel was a monk and growing plants to produce food for the group made him look at what was growing. He was also lucky to grow plants that had simple genetic patterns. He was a very educated scientist and after many growing seasons he was able to see patterns. He then did his famous experiments.
Answered earlier also;
Because 1. It had a number of contrasting phenotypic characters in its population.
2. It had a short life span and could be grown in the garden for crossing.
3. It is self pollinated in nature thus having stable heritable traits.
So he can find the inheritence of traits.
They produce many offspring. (APEX)
Mendel is famous for his work with pea plants. These experiments led to the Law of Segregation and the Law of Independent Assortment. Several different pea-plant traits were used in his experiments, including seed type and flower colour.

Gregor Mendel didn't really use any technology. He basically observed the pea plants traits generation after generation, and the outcome of the same experiment repeated.
He used pea plants for his genetics experiment.
Gregor Mendel studied sweet pea plants and was the first to discover magnifie glass (p.s. if i spelled something wrong sorry about that just as your parents):):D

Mendel used the mathematics in his experiments. He found the ratio of the pea plants who were tall to who were short if every generation and gave the law of inheritance.
