Most of France, England and the US had vivid and negative memories of The Great War which had somehow touched them personally. War in any form was seen as something to be avoided. Peace at any cost was viewed as preferable to another war. People in Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the US felt strongly that European affairs were not in their best interest, They had suffered mightilly in their previous defense of Europe and were reluctant to place the sons of another generation at risk. Patriotism and loyalty wasn't and should not be questioned. A hope to avoid future wars was tempered with a sense of balance.
