Look at the plus post on the battery clamp where all the wires come together

if you see black or a burned area, this is possibly where a elec short takes place which activates the juice to the relay box

hope this is a good place to start, usually look in the likeliest of places.

Hope this helps

What does the hid light relay do?

The relay harness redirects the power. So when you turn on your headlights, the ballast pulls power directly from the battery instead of having to go though the factory wiring of your car. And if your car did not come with hids from the factory, the wiring usually cannot handle the extra power going through the wires. Which could cause them to melt and possibly catch on fire in the worst cases. But even if your car came with hids and your just looking to upgrade or renew the kit. Getting a good relay harness is still better than factory wiring. The better the wiring to the hid ballast the brighter your headlights could be.

Your alternator is good when tested out of the truck but when tested in the truck and running the meter says its bad. could it be the wiring from the alternatro to the battery?

Try checking the fuse/relay first. If no problem, perform a continuity check between source and destination (harness).
