his was going to die and was trying to save itself by keeping itself warm
not long you should try a to find a way to put him back in his shell or he will die. My Hermit crab left his shell and never made it back. In other words: He left the house and never came back...
Yes, they are nocturnal but also are active during the day, some of them dont come out as much as others, my hermies have not come out of their hiding place for months but there alive and well i check on them
Hermit crabs came from, tropical areas. They are used to oceans, so any place warm and hot and tropical, like the Bahamas.

may be electrons disappear from one shell when it receives it maximum energy and reappear at the other shell. or when the electrons receives it maximum energy it may convert into another form in band gap of an atom and again converted into its original form when it come it another shell which has fixed amount of energy...
Its not that they come out of their shell to become bigger they become bigger and outgrow their shell and are forced to migrate to a new, bigger shell *ESSENTIAL*
As hermit crabs grow and increase in size they need to come out of their shell in order to find a larger shell to live in.
NO they don't because they they stay in shell
It may be happy with the shell is has on. NEVER force a hermit crab out of its shell. but over time it will molt and change to a diffrent shell.
Just pull on it, it should come out.
Only if no one is around!
The shell that the hermit crab adopts and wears and changes many times throughout his decades long lifetime helps him in several ways. The hermit crab has a very delicate abdomen that is protected by the shell. Without this shell, his abdomen could become punctured very easily and the crab would die. The hermit crab also carries water in his shell to keep the abdomen moist. If it were to dry out, again, the hermit crab would die. The crab balances the salinity of the water within his shell by accessing fresh or salt water as needed. The shell is also his shelter, and protects him from predators. The ideal fitting shell will allow the hermit crab to pull fully inside and to block off the opening with his large pincer.
When a hermit crab sheds you will see something come out of the shell and it looks like its dead it only sheds halfway and if you look inside the shell it will still be there.
two when they come ou tof their shell...hope that helps!!
To change into a new shell or to mate. If not for these reasons, it is very sick
The reason your hermit crab is staying in its shell is because... 1. When it sees you it will quickly go into its shell for protection. 2. They like to come out at night more then the day. 3. It is in the wrong environment. 4. It will only come out if there is food or water.
If your land hermit crab's shell gets to small get a new shell. The shell hole should be the same size as your crab's big claw or bigger Make sure your crab's new shell is clean. DO NOT FORCE YOU CRAB TO COME OUT! All you have to do is set your crab's new shell in it's cage and wait.
