Best Answer

Native people's of the America's had logical reasons attacking settler's and their assets. The first involved self-defense against whom they viewed as foreign invaders. The second was over competition for economic and Natural Resources that the settlers placed downward pressures against. Lastly, many natives were politically deceived through treaties and contracts that were not honored. This destroyed the chances for compromise and peaceful coexistence by creating mistrust and conflict.

There were quite a few reasons and it really depends on the time frame and the location. Some of the reasons include:

  • Settlers intruding on native american lands without permission
  • In support of allied native americans with whom the settlers were having disputes
  • For pay (such as during the French and Indian War)
  • Retaliation for attacks by settlers on native americans or wrongscommittedby settlers - not necessarily the settlers being attacked of course
  • As part of native american culture where raids on other groups were a standard way of gaining livestock, goods, slaves (albeit according to native american slavery rules rather than European slavery rules), wives, etc.
  • As part of native american culture where such battles established bravery and prowess
  • Self defense when attacked by settlers
