Of course, there are many other reasons, but just to state one:

The Stock Market crash of 1929 caused the beginning of the Great Depression, which meant people were losing jobs and were at desperate measures to gain money.

Prohibition meant one less space for jobs, since making alcohol and selling alcohol (such as wine, etc.) was a job.

Great Depression called for the need of jobs, which is one of the many contributing reasons to why the 18th amendment was repealed.

It was also the only amendment to be repealed (so far).

It was repealed because people were smuggling alcohol from canida into the u.s.a and these illegal smugglers were becoming very rich. That means that they were taking money away from us and forcing the government to give us more taxes. So the gov had to do it so there wouldn't be anymore of those problems It was repealed because people were smuggling alcohol from canida into the u.s.a and these illegal smugglers were becoming very rich. That means that they were taking money away from us and forcing the government to give us more taxes. So the gov had to do it so there wouldn't be anymore of those problems

The 18th Amendment is the only amendment that has ever been reversed. With the crash of 1929 and the country well into the Great Depression the reason for the reversal came down to dollars and cents. The Government was broke and banks were closing due to no money reserves, the taxes from alcohol was badly needed. And the war on alcohol was a losing battle. Prohibition not only did not stop alcohol consumption it actually fueled it. Bootlegging was a huge buisness for the mob. It generated so much crime and corruption it was defeating the purpose to outlaw it. So with the taxes on relegalized booze, newly instituted income tax and Roosavelt's New Deal the country started to pull itself out of one of it's darkest periods in its history.

Congress formally proposed the repeal of Prohibition on February 20, 1933. To date, the Twenty-first is the only amendment ratified by conventions held in the several states, rather than being ratified by the state legislatures. Edward Schoeneck (the Lt. Governor of New York 1915-1918 and Mayor of Syracuse, NY 1913-1915) also played an important role in the ratification of the 21st amendment.
