AH, Yes, the "evil" Catholics always killing heretics...does anyone really believe that black legend? And the real questions is: were the Catholics the only ones to pronounce people heretics and the only ones to execute heretics? NO, both protestants and Catholics have pronounced people and ideas as heretical.

In order to come to an understanding of this, we must first try to put our mind around a society which was in existence hundreds of years ago - their weltanschauung (apprehension of the world) was quite different from ours and Church and state were closely united and disloyalty to one was considered disloyalty to the other and tantamount to treason.

Punishment for common crimes were harsh by todays standards, for example theft (depending on what and from whom it was stolen) was punished by fines that could amount to up to three times the cost of the stolen item and if the fine could not be paid one could have been sold into slavery.

Here are a few examples of instances of protestant condemning and executing heretics: Calvin and Servetus, King Henry and Thomas Moore, and (on American soil) the Boston martyrs executed by the protestant "puritans" etc. etc. In short, some were executed and some were banished from the city-state and threatened with death if they returned...

I shan't mention the Catholic instances of this because we all "know" about it!

Now, we can come to the crux of the matter: why were heretics treated so? Church and State (in Catholic and in Protestant Places) were inseparable and heretics were considered revolutionaries and could lead souls to Hell. Defenders of the Faith felt they must act. We must take into consideration that the penalty for being called a heretic was not an immediate death sentence. There was a process of progressive discipline (discussion, penance, and fines) and only then was obstinate heresy was punishable by death.

The Church did nothing that was out of the ordinary (for the time) for heresies, as a look at history will show.

Why Catholic Church and Protestant both want to kill Anabaptist you mean you know that one of the things is because Anabaptist take the power of State of Church but is ther any more reason that they b?

To the best of my knowledge, the Catholic Church never sought to kill Anabaptists, they certainly condemned them as heretics, but the Catholic Church is the Mystical Body of Christ and is here on earth to save people, not to kill them. To kill someone is a complete loss for the Church, that soul can never be saved.
