they did not choose Britain, William the conqueror brought them there as merchants and bankers because the British population was Christian and Christians were forbidden to be merchants of anything apart from medicine and of being a banker (lends people money). therefore he had to bring someone in to boost the economy, who better than the Jews who were not restricted by biblical laws of that sort.
