The early saint were given many different revelations telling them to leave the Eastern US. Some reasons are:
Even if the Saints weren't giving a reason by the Lord, just the fact that He told them to is a reason.
The saints left the Midwest and headed for the far west due to extreme amounts of persecution in the Mid-West.
The main body of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) fled the eastern United States in the mid-1800's in search of a place where they could practice their religion in peace. They had been run out of New York, Ohio, Missouri, and Illinois due to extreme persecution, violence, and legal action. (in Missouri it was made legal to kill a Mormon!)
Mormonism was unpopular in the eastern US before the church was even officially founded. Mormons were not well accepted in the eastern US historically for the same reason that they are not well accepted today - they are not traditional and challenge the beliefs and practices that are commonly taught.
young wanted to move the Mormons far from hostile neighbors
All states in the US are inhabited by mormons, Utah having the largest population.
Nobody. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) was founded in the US - so the first Mormons were already in the US! :) If you are speaking of the first Mormons to move from another country to the US, rather than the first Mormons ever in the US, the answer is still nobody. The first Mormons to move from another country to the US came from Canada, and were not 'brought' by any specific person, only encouraged to move so that they could be nearer to the main body of the church.

The Mormon pioneers travelled from everywhere. Mostly from the eastern states of the US, eastern Canada, and Europe - most noteably Great Britain and Scandanavia. The actual starting point on the Mormon trail varied, for early pioneers it was Nauvoo Illinois, but later travelers met in St. Louis Missouri or Iowa City Iowa. The Mormons believed that they were fulfilling the Biblical prophesy to "gather out of the four corners of the earth" to one place - Zion.
