There was nothing that ever indicated that the Southern States, the Confederacy, was ever in a situation regarding a war with Great Britain. Great Britain helped the Confederacy by building a small number of fast light, ironclads to help it thwart the Union's blockade of Southern seaports. These vessels were successful in sinking a sizable number of Union ships.
