I saw this on Nova, you see the support beams in the towers were coats with a pretty flimsy fire retardant, when the planes hit the force of the impact blew off the fire retardant and a fire was started. Because the fire retardant was gone the heat from the flames eventually made the support beams buckle and collapse.

it use to but on September 11, 2001 two planes crash into both towers. the by 10:05 south tower collapse. then by 10:28 the north tower collapse. so now the do not exist.
