Two main reasons have been given:
1) During the Napoleonic Wars, British military routinely came aboard U.S. ships on the high seas and "impressed" (ie, seized) sailors from the latter. Americans viewed this as little better than piracy; the Brits insisted they were simply taking back deserters from their own ships.
2) For decades, Britain had been giving arms to natives at war with the U.S.
In addition, many Americans thought that Canada was ripe for conquest and that American honor required a war. Although neither were officially given as justifications, those who held these views were the most enthusiastic in demanding that war be declared.
1)Taxation without representation. Great Britain was taxing Americans when America had no representations in Parliament. Because of this, Britain cannot tax America unless America is represented in Parliament.
2)Militia- Britain's armed troops were staying in civilian's houses, and eating their food as one of the intolerable acts. Also searching without warrant, reason, or cause, and forcing/controlling people to obey unjust laws (esp. paying the unfair taxes).
For the long of it read the Declaration of Independence beginning where the Declaration enumerates the sundry grievances held against The King of England. As THE KING is at one and the same time THE KINGDOM and as the British Empire or Britain is and was the monarchy whose top figure (both leader and "figure head") is THE KING then all grievances were wagered against him. However, it was against all the government, thus Britain, that war was raged.
For the short of it I would say it came down to two primary points:
***Taxation without representation - The "colonies" (States) were required to pay taxes "to the King" (to Britain) but had no voice--no vote or votes--no representation in the governing of ourselves (America) or our native land, England/Britain.
***Absence of legal action - The King, Britain, did not concern itself with the everyday governance needs of the colonies/States. Thus the land remained in essence "lawless" saving what law was afforded by force whether it was Authentic ("King approved") or otherwise.
In the American Revolution, the United States broke away from Britain, which sparked a war because Britain would not let U.S. leave without a fight.
In the War of 1812, the US declared war on Great Britain because of refusal to retreat from forts in American territory, the fact that Britain was supplying Native Americans with guns, and because British ships were sinking American ships and forcing sailors to serve in the British Navy.
James Madison asked Congress to declare war on Britain in 1812.

The us declared war on Britain because the king George was being very unfair to his people and the Americans. hence that's what led up to the declaration of Independence.

American military and economic preparedness for war
Great Britain and the United States were allies to defeat Germany so the US would not attack Great Britain.
