August 15th 1944, the allies invade the south of France and set the whole meditarranean coast free. The troops there walked up the Rhône to meet the Normandy troops and walk toward Berlin.

The June 6th invasion was made in Normandy because the German were waiting in the Pas-de-Calais, the shortest way to reach France. They couldn't go further because of the fleet's size and the number of special floating equipment dragged by the cruisers.
