Also, Black Hand wanted independence for Slavic countries, and assassinating the Archduke got them attention. This was more likely to get them what they wanted (or so they thought).

They did not want to be part of the Austro-Hungarian empire, and they did not want to pay taxes to them. There is also some indication he had a personal dislike for the Archduke. Princip had tuberculosis and knew he was going to die soon. He assassinated the Archduke as a final act of "patriotism" believeing he would not live long enough to receive punishment.
