Now, the fact that these massacres were only a few days long should not be seen to minimize the 8,489 Bosniaks who were butchered in these two massacres.
Considering that the Bosnian Genocide took only a few days, the question "why it lasted so long" seems improper in comparison to other genocides like the Rwandan genocide, Armenian genocide, or Jewish Holocaust that all took place over months. As for why it was not resolved by the UN soldiers that were present in Srebrenica and Žepa, this is because they were hesitant to engage the Bosnian Serb forces, both from exhaustion and disinterest.
