The British Parliament were imposing very high taxes on all products that were being shipped to the colonies. The colonists had no way to voice their objections within the British government because there was no one to represent them. This caused the colonists to increase their desire to gain their independence.

The colonists objected to King George oppressively taxing them to control there exports so they would only export the raw materilas to England. It is similar to the actions of Ney York State and New York City oppressive cigarette tax. It is taxing people as a way of forcing them to act in a certain way.

The colonists objected to pay British taxes because they felt they were still British themselves. The people that still lived in Great Britain received military protection for free since they were citizens and after the french and Indian war Britain began to charge the colonists taxes to finance money for weaponry and ammunition lost. This led to the colonists believing that they were no longer considered citizens and were outraged.

The 13 British colonies in America were always faced with taxation to be paid to their home country, Great Britain. There came a time when these taxes became an issue with the colonists. That was because they had no representation in the British parliament. The slogan against this situation was "No taxation without representation".
