Actually the colonists didnt put tax on tea. Great Britian did because at that time Great Britian ruled America. Great Britain out the tax on tea so that they could pay off thier war debt.

the English wanted to get paid from the colinists for the debits in the french and Indian war so they taxed tea glass paper ink etc.
