Boycotting.
The colonists wanted freedom so they created the congress. They did this by writing a document.
The main purpose of the First Continental Congress was to petition England to give them the rights they expected. The congress was held in response to the Coercive Acts.
Intolerable Acts by the British led colonial leaders to form the first continental congress and draw up a declaration of colonial rights in 1774. The congress was held as a means of protest against the British.
To establish a government, write the bill of rights and the constitution. Vote on the constitution and form a country.
The First Continental Congress was a meeting of delegates from 12 of the 13 colonies early on the American Revolution. Its purpose was to stop the enforcement of the Intolerable Acts by considering various things, such as a boycott of British trade.
The Continental Congress was initially formed in response to the passage of the Intolerable Acts (laws passed by the British Parliament meant to punish the Massachusetts colonists for the Boston Tea Party). The Congress met from 1774 to 1789 three times. At the first one, in 1774, Benjamin Franklin convinced the colonies to form a representative body.
It was needed to respond to the unjust terms and rules applied to the colonists by way of the Coercive Acts also known as the Intolerable acts. Also the first national American government was the Continental Congress. Colonial leaders came together in this Congress to oppose British policies that restricted their rights and taxed them without representation in Parliament. Called by the Virginia House of Burgesses, delegates from all of the thirteen colonies ,except Georgia, gathered in Philadelphia. The 1st Continental Congress urged Americans not to import British goods and to form armed militia. But rather than advocate revolution, Congress called for "peace, liberty and security" within the British empire. The British Parliament saw the Congress as treasonous and ordered colonial governors to prevent another election. Yet the 2nd Continental Congress met in May 1775.
the continental congress held a meeting discussing britans unfair laws and taxes. there were 2 contininental congress mettings. one was to discuss the laws and taxes. the other was to form the continental army. congress decided that the leader of this army would be George Washington
British-American colonists became angered by their government's arbitrary application of the law and taxation. They couldn't get a fair hearing in court, could not get justice when needed. The First Continental Congress in 1775 laid out a set of grievances to the Crown. Britain responded by sending military forces to seize the arms of the colonists and fighting ensued, beginning with the Boston Massacre. The Second Continental Congress in 1776 repeated the list of grievances with an important modification - this time, the Colonies decided that their own government had become their enemy so they were to separate and form their own nation.
George Washington.
