The US Civil War was a consequence of different views on slavery. While moderates in the North, such as President Lincoln did not want to disturb slavery where it already existed, but opposed it in the Western Territories was not in itself damaging to the South, another issue was. New states had been entering the US as free states and the growing populations in the North caused the South to be a minority in the US House of Representatives. Southern leaders saw that their balance in the Senate was also leaning to the Northern view of "less slave states". Since it would appear the South would be marginalized politically and economically, they sought secession to create a new nation of their own. President Lincoln was a Unionist and would do anything to preserve the US. Since the South saw no hope by remaining in the US, the Confederacy was formed. Their bombardment of Federal Fort Sumter was the spark that led to the war.
The south's whole economy was based on slavework, while the north didn't need slaves for they relied on industry.

It was a precursor to the Civil War. Southern slave holders saw that northern abolitionists were willing to resort to violence to end slavery. This in turn caused them to want to secede out of fear.
The main motive of the Civil War in the United States was the conflict over slavery. The Southern states wanted to preserve and expand the institution of slavery, while the Northern states opposed it and sought to abolish it. This disagreement over slavery ultimately led to the secession of the Southern states and the outbreak of the Civil War.
The American Revolution did not effect slavery. It was the Civil War that had the biggest effect on slavery in the US.
