Immigrant Labor
No. It is a specific business. An Industry is a very large group (100's, 1000's, 10000's) of related businesses that rely on each other financially, and in fact would die out if the other businesses were not there. Often it is a very basic need that is being met: transportation, food, shelter, water, energy. The plantation is a part of the Agricultural industry but it is not THE Agricultural industry.
Because the south was mainly cotton produced--and trains at that time wasn't built to go very far, the South had to rely on the North for food because the North was so widely diverse on manufacturing, agriculture and more. So then this leaves the answer being: the south was dependent on the north for food supplies.
they both had very low economies which means they both were very broke. the south had slavery for a purpose, they used them as maids for food and other stuff like that. the slavery had really nothing but, slavery. just working for white male.

The South's plantation economy put it at a disadvantage because it had to rely on imports for numerous manufactured goods. The North, in contrast, had a thriving manufacturing base.

true.
The upper South did not have to rely as heavily on slave labor because their farms were smaller. The lower South had huge cotton plantations.
They wanted to keep slavery in the country, because their ecosystem relied on slaves to do farm work. The north did not need slaves as much, because they didn't rely on farm work, like the southerners did. With out slaves in the south, then the farmers had to do their own work. That would have slowed down the process of farming, because there were less farmers than slaves. It isn't really too fun to work in the hot sun either. The slaves' black skin did not get burned easily. But the farmers would have to do the work by themselves, and they did not want that.
the north had a large industrial base, they also didn't rely on slaves to work, and lastly the north had more people. the south basically had all the military schools and they also were very agriculturally based.
Since Jamestown in 1607, cotton has been grown in the South. It first became a major cash crop in the 1700s. Soon inventions such as the spinning jenny and the cotton gin made production of cotton into textiles quicker and easier. But the picking of cotton was a drawback into the 1800s. Harvesting could not be done by machines at the time. So larger farmers of cotton came to rely on the labor of African-American slaves. As a result, cotton cultivation shaped the lives of Southerners, from white plantation-owning families to the slaves who worked the fields.
