some times when there is a problem in the world, the right thing to do isn't always to fight. the Christians of the world did send provisions and Bibles to the people, but there really wasn't much the Christians could do. I'm not saying that Christians don't believe in fighting and war, I'm saying that this isn't always the right thing to do.
Trotsky understood the importance of a slow collectivization process. So did Stalin and Rykov. When Stalin changed his mind, the results were a disaster and grain production fell to lows, lower than the socalled Hunger Zone" Famine was the result and the entire economy was placed on the brink of disaster.
Railroads in the United States allowed for better transportation to all areas in the western part of the USA. Better often meant faster & safer. The now defunct racial policy of South Africa called apartheid provided that society in that country separate races. Under this policy whites, Africans, Asiatic, and socalled "Colored" populations lived apart. It has since been abolished. Many social scientists wondered why this took so long. One thought was that despite the moral & political problems of apartheid, South Africa was so prosperous that Africans from nearby nations emigrated to S.A.
In fact, a 'Time' editor, Whittaker Chambers, a former Stalinist spy himself, accused Alger Hiss of being a Soviet espionage agent ['Stalinist' as opposed to 'communist.' The USSR had about as much relation to communism as Detroit does to the Emerald City], but no proof was ever adduced to demonstrate that Hiss had been a member of the CP.In reality, the argument still rages as to whether or not Chambers was lying through his teeth, a habit in which he apparently indulged with some frequency as you will see on these web sites: For more thorough information, see AlgerHiss.com and DocumentsTalk.com.As you read through these web sites and the relevant books, you'll probably find that the case boils down to forensics:Was the paper evidence, the socalled Baltimore Documents forged by an Army intelligence operative named Horace Schmahl [or someone else], and did someone refabricat/rebuild, the typewriter thought to have been the instrument that supposedly typed them into one that would reproduce exactly the text from another machine, the sort of forgery that both the British and the Germans did in WWII ?jmcWestwood NJ
The ancient Romans did not have a "religion" as we think of religion today. They were pantheocratic. In fact, most of them were rather irreligious, performing religious duties when they were expected to be performed or when they needed a favor from some god. However some of them belonged to actual groups that were followers of some god or goddess. Today we would call them cults. There were the cults of Isis, Cybele and Mithras, then, after a time Christianity. As additional information, the socalled religions of the ancient Romans changed a bit as time passed. The most informative description might be that the ancient Romans were pagans. To some degree the pagan gods were part of Roman culture and as example, Augustus took on the title of Pontimus Maximus upon the death of the previous owner of this religious title. This conferred him as chief priest. Upon his death the Senate deified Augustus. So in some measure we see that paganism played a part even if superficial in Roman life.
