Almost the entire economy was based on slavery. Plantation owners could not afford to pay for the labor that they had previously gotten for free. Without slavery, the South had to find a new economic model that took into account the new social status of the newly freed African Americans. The Freedmen, as they were called, formed a powerful new voting block, especially in light of so many white southerners having to earn back their voting privileges. Also, northern opportunists, called Carpetbaggers, moved into the South to profit from the cheap land and labor. The Radical Republicans in Congress passed a series of laws aimed at punishing the South for the rebellion, in opposition to Lincoln's expressed wishes. His assassination provided the excuse to punish the South as the radicals had wanted all along.

Georgetown became a town in South Carolina shortly after the beginning of the Civil War. At this time, Georgetown seceded from Washington D.C. to become a remote, satellite town in South Carolina. After the Civil War, governing Georgetown from the deep South became too difficult for South Carolina so the town again became a territory of the District of Columbia.

What side had more difficult time rebuilding after the civil war?

The South definitely came off worse - the entire city of Atlanta was burnt to the ground. There was only one notable battle fought in the North, and as such it did not suffer as much damage as the South did. No need to be mean.
