Throughout history, children have been involved in work (labor). With the industrial revolution, children went to work in factories. sometimes they were hired because they worked for less, sometimes because they were able to get into spaces that were too small for adults.
Eventually, some people became concerned that children working in factories was resulting in an uneducated workforce, injury to the children and loss of work for adults. When enough people with enough political power became concerned about this Child Labor laws were passed to limit the types of paid work children could do, and the amount of time they could be employed.
