It was a COLD war, not a HOT one. Trade with caution. They certainly did not remain allies after the Germans had been defeated and the Iron Curtain descended. The Yalta Agreement was supposed to return sovereignty to countries invaded by the Germans but the Soviets did not abide by the agreement and occupied most of them. They even wanted to absorb Austria. It was generally seen by the Soviets that they had done most of the fighting and suffered the greatest losses in WWII and they wanted a just reward.
