Arabians don't necessarily live longer than other breeds, nearly all breeds of horse live from 15 to 25 years. However since Arabians are smaller on average this may have something to do with it, much the same way a pony typically lives longer than a larger horse.

Do Missouri fox trotters have an extra vertebrae?

After years of experience with trail horses I would say that Missouri Fox Trotters have the same number of vertebrae as most other breeds. The notable exception is the purebred Arabian which has one less vertebra than other breeds. Sometimes gaited horses belonging to breeds developed especially to provide horses with comfortable gaits like the Missouris Fox Trotter which can move in a gait where its front hooves have a long stride while hind hooves trot may appear to have a longer body. The Mountain horse breeds like the Rocky Mountain Horse which move with an asynchronous four-beat gait (each hoof strikes the ground separately) can appear to have a longer body than, say a Quarter Horse.

How long is the lifespan for the Arabian horse?

Most horses live for between 18 and 25 years. Horses that are exercised hard and strained when they are young often wear and die faster, around age 13 or 14. This is only likely to be the case with an Arabian if it was raised in Arabia or parts of Africa where horses are ridden and raced as yearlings. Horses will live longer if they are well cared for and given good nutrition.

What do Arabian horses look like?

Well the original old type of Arabian had a kind of 'ewe' neck where the bottom was longer and/or stuck out farther than what was considered acceptable by breeders. The horses also tended to carry their heads and necks very upright and sometimes held back towards their withers. Modern Arabians now have a more graceful neck where it is highly arched and carried either forward, level or straight depending on the horse.

What are facts about Thoroughbred foals?

Thoroughbred foals come into the world like all other breeds of horses. The gestation for horses is 320 to 340 days average. Thoroughbreds are tall horses and a lot of newborns may weigh a little more than smaller breeds which is about 100 lbs. at birth. Thoroughbred foals have very long legs and from almost the minute they are born they love to run, which is exactly what they were bred to do. Thoroughbreds usually have a bigger lung capacity so they can run longer distances. The American Quarter Horse is faster than a Thoroughbred but only for a quarter mile. The distance belongs to the Thoroughbred. Generally speaking, these horses are amazing athletes and one of the most beautiful breeds.
