In the New Prophecy they break up because Squirrelflight thinks Brambleclaw shouldn't hang out with his half brother Hawkfrost because he's too ambitious, which she's right in the end and they get back together!=)
In Power of Three they break up because Lionpaw, Hollypaw, and Jaypaw really aren't their kids! They are actually Leafpool's and Crowfeather's kits. But Leafpool handed them over to her sister because she was a medicine cat. She wanted Brambleclaw and Squirrelflight to raise them. But he found out. I won't tell you how though, because I don't want it all to spoiled.

Why was ashfur mean to squirelflight in cat warriors?
Because when Brambleclaw began to ignore her, Squirelflight began paying attention to Ashfur to make Brambleclaw jealous. When Brambleclaw and Squirelflight get together, she leaves Ashfur heartbroken.

She doesn't. *spoiler alert* Firestar dies of old age and Brambleclaw is appointed Bramblestar, and Squirelflight becomes his deputy.

Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw left on their journey to the sun-drown place together with cats from other clans. On their journey their and back, they get very close without realizing it.Squirrelflight has Hollypaw, Jaypaw, and Lionpaw. (Though they are not really their kits) Brambleclaw and Squirrelpaw break up. But get back together. They didn't have kits of their own yet though.

Yes, Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw knew that Jayfeather was not their biological kit. Squirrelflight had taken Jaykit (Jayfeather) from Leafpool, her sister, to raise as their own after Leafpool was unable to care for him due to her role as a medicine cat. Brambleclaw was also aware of the situation and supported Squirrelflight in this decision.
